Chief Sitting Bull

This life-sized cast bronze sculpture of Chief Sitting Bull (1831-1890) is #2 of a limited edition of 17 and is a magnificent collector's piece with patina adding warmth and realism.  The sculpture is so realistic that one can almost palpate the sadness in the great Sioux chief's eyes and face, but even so, the proud spirit and character of the man is not missed by the sculptor's perception. This sculpture was created from an original historical photograph of the great Sioux chief.
Sitting Bull, also called Tatanka-Iyotanka, by his native people, is most often associated with the military defeat of General George Armstrong Custer and the 7th Cavalry, at the Battle of the Little Big Horn; however, in realistic terms, his greatest contribution to that battle was his ability to diplomatically unify the great Indian Nations of the Sioux, Blackfoot, Cheyenne, Sans Arc, and other groups--this is the real reason behind the victory that June day in 1876, at the Battle of the Little Big Horn.
