It Is Well

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation,
whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
I can do everything through Him (Christ) who strengthens me.

"It Is Well With My Soul"

Horatio Gates Spafford

was a wealthy businessman who suffered financial ruin in the Chicago fire of October, 1871. A short time later, his wife and four daughters were on a voyage crossing the Atlantic when their ship collided with another ship, and only his wife survived the wreck. She sent notice to him by way of a telegram, which bore the message "Saved alone" in order to let him know that she had been rescued. Later, when Spafford himself was on a trans-Atlantic journey, as he came near the site where his daughters had lost their lives, he was inspired by the Holy Spirit to pen the following words, which later became a hymn. Originally given the name "Ville de Havre", the name of the ill-fated ship which had taken the lives of his daughters, the hymn is now known by the name,

It Is Well With My Soul

Please read carefully the words to the song, as they point to the eternal hope of all Christians. We can rejoice in the knowledge that Jesus, with the cross, has secured for each of us eternal glory. Regardless of the trials and hardships we may endure here on earth, we can rest in this hope. I pray that all is well with your soul today and that you have found a resting place in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lord Jesus Christ through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we
now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice

character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured
